I used this cage as a quarantine cage for my two baby rats, and will likely also use it as a travel cage. As others have mentioned, it’s really not at all sufficient as a permanent cage for rats (I’m not sure about other small animals). I didn’t have any issues with chewing in the few weeks it’s been used, though I’m sure that could depend on your individual pets and how much they chew, since the base is plastic. The platform is annoying to put in and take out to clean, and I literally couldn’t get the ramp to install correctly at all, it’s a very odd design. But two young rats don’t need to use the ramp at all. All in all this does the job just fine as a temporary cage.

Not big enough for permanent cage for my pet rat. But makes good travel or isolation cage until I can afford bigger cage. Would be fine , I think for smaller rodents.Bars are nice and close together which is great. The platform can be removed for cleaning. The clips are very hard for me to squeeze to attach the bars to the base. I would prefer the clips like on the bigger Kaylee rabbit cage. Overall, a good first cage for my rat.

Fist things first, this is NOT a rat cage but it’s good for two reasons A.hamster cage or B. If you need to isolate a rat. (trust me I had rats.) first of all rats need a tall cage for climbing and all the toys they need this cage you put a hammock and one or two toys and it’s full and theres no room for two rats to really run and play. You NEED to rats they are so social one rat is only okay if it really won’t get along with any rat. Even then you will need a lot of toys to make up fo that. If this was a temporary cage for one may two small rats I think it would be okay.NOW HAMSTERS, whole different story. I got a female teddy bear Syrian hamster. Females are a bigger then males. She’s such a sweet girl and needed a good cage, she’s too big for tubes and we didn’t want a bin cage(that I highly recommend, please look into) and as most hamster owners know and all should know hamsters need a big cage need in mind this cage I wish was a little better as you will see later in my review. But other wise amazing hamster cage! I can fit 3 hides and the big hamster weel she needs plus she still has running room. She’s so happy on her new cage. Also to mention it’s affordable. It’s so easy to clean! Saying all this there’s still some problems. 1. The ramp, I actually put it in a ferret cage because I didn’t wanna waste it but it sure is a waste in this cage. Fist of all it took up so much room for what it is there’s no point. And it didn’t even stay on correctly. So what I did is take the bowl out and used the hole for the bowl and put something under it so she could go up. I really wish that hole wasn’t there and it was just a full platform. 2. I wish it was bigger or they offered a bigger one or a way to connect two. I will post more pictures later but please do look into this cage vs a bin cage for your hamster and as a isolation cage for a new rat or for a aggressive Rat

We just got this as a travel/transport cage for our pair of rats, so for that purpose it works… but way too small for an actual cage (and seems pricey for the size although they all are and we needed something fast… so yay for fast shipping at least too)

The local pet store was asking 4 times as much for this same exact cage, so I’m glad I found it on Amazon for a very reasonable price. Easy to put together, roomy, comes with a ramp to get to the food level. The door needs to be put in a different location, maybe on the top of the cage, because our rat bolted out when I slightly opened the door to reach in for something and now he’s loose in our basement.

I ordered two of these cages as my two gerbils one day just decided that they didn’t want to get along anymore. I originally had them in the large, 3 platform rat home by Kaytee and they loved it and hadn’t chewed through the plastic platforms like their first cage so I wanted something similar. This is the exact same design, just shorter/smaller and with one platform. The base is wonderful because of how deep it is, so they don’t kick out as much bedding as they would in a hamster cage, so they can dig to their heart’s content. I could have done without the hole for the food bowl to sit in, as the bowl is a bit too big for them (they prefer to sit in their big bowl while they eat, and I don’t want that). Both cages, like the large cage, arrived with issues though; the same issues actually. Some cage bars had to be bent back into a correct position a little bit, which was ok, but the main problem for both is with the latches. The wire latches that hold the bars to the base of the cage were not correct; one would snap into place and hold onto the base and bars correctly but the other side is far too loose and has to be bent just right to get it to work…which is harder to do with the latch wire.Other than that the cages are fine and the gerbils are happily romping around and not trying to kill each other anymore.

I got this cage for my 2 small female rats. Please take note and DO NOT put baby rats in here. Mine were able to get out until about 3 months old so I bought a temporary cage (Hamster/mouse size) until they were big enough to safely fit into this one. This cage is a bit small and I would not recommend any more than 2 rats in here. I’m able to fit a few toys, a hammock etc in this one. I was going to buy a larger size because it’s hard to fit the wheel in with all the other stuff but mine refuse to use a wheel. I let mine out to run around in the bedroom or in their exercise ball. I’m very lucky that mine are not major chewers as the full base is plastic. They did start to chew a little corner but adding some new toys stopped that (they must’ve been bored). My advice – no more than 2 in here once they’re about 3 months or older, make sure they have plenty of time outside of the cage and make sure they have plenty of stuff to keep them busy. Rats need to be stimulated and have things to do. Mine love Kleenex boxes to play in and hide things in. I’m pleased with this cage bug if you don’t plan on having your rats out much, please do them a favor and get something larger.
